Scottish driver awarded coveted BRDC Silver Star

The Scuderia Ecosse team is delighted to announce that Andrew Kirkaldy has been awarded the prestigious BRDC Silver Star for 2005. A previous winner of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award, Andrew receives the Silver Star in recognition of his performance in this year’s British GT Championship.

“I’m honoured to receive the Silver Star,” said Andrew when he heard the news. “The BRDC is an important institution for British racing drivers so an award from them means a great deal to me. Nathan (Kinch) and I had a fantastic season this year with Scuderia Ecosse; we really couldn’t have asked for better results, so I must thank Nathan and all the team for their part in this.”

“We always suspected that Andrew was a bit of a star,” joked Stewart Roden, Scuderia Ecosse Team Principal. “We’re so happy he’s won this award as he has a talent that deserves such recognition. Well done Andrew!”

“The BRDC are delighted that Andrew has won the Star after such a successful season in the British GT Championship with Scuderia Ecosse,” added James Beckett, Assistant Club Secretary of the BRDC.

The BRDC Silver Star was first presented in 1977, and has since been awarded to many great drivers such as Martin Brundle, James Weaver, Will Hoy, Kelvin Burt and Jason Plato. There have been a good few Scottish winners over the years too so Andrew joins a list of fellow countrymen including John Cleland, Anthony Reid and David Leslie.

Andrew will receive the Silver Star at the BRDC Annual Awards on Monday 5 December at Silverstone. The popular event will be attended by Club President, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, and other such luminaries.
