The British GT Championship isn’t generally known as a stepping-stone to Formula One but since winning the 2005 competition, Nathan Kinch has had two outings in an F1 car!

Straight after the last race at Silverstone Nathan travelled out to Fiorano, Ferrari’s test track in Italy, to test a Ferrari F1 chassis, raced by Rubens Barrichello in the 2003 FIA Formula One World Championship, the year Ferrari won the Constructor’s Title and Michael Schumacher became World Champion for the sixth time.

The car is owned by Larry Kinch who joined Nathan and the Scuderia Ecosse team a couple of weeks later at the Ferrari World Finals at Mugello, the annual end-of-season celebration of all that is Ferrari. Larry also owns a ’91 Alain Prost Ferrari F1 car which he drove himself while Nathan took the opportunity to have another blast in the 2003 car.

“It’s hard to explain what that was like,” commented Nathan after his run. “There’s not really anything to compare it to. The car is awesome; it’s nerve-wracking to drive, especially when Barrichello’s old engineer is looking after me! It was a fantastic experience, unrivalled by anything else, and I can’t wait to do it again!”

Nathan will be back in a Ferrari very soon but this time the more familiar 360 GTC as he and Andrew Kirkaldy prepare for the final LMES race of 2005 in Istanbul on 13 November.
