All set for season finale

The FIA GT teams are off to Belgium next weekend for the season finale at Zolder. With many championship battles going down to the wire this year it looks set to be a thrilling weekend of racing.

Zolder is a new circuit to Scuderia Ecosse but has run FIA GT events on three previous occasions. The track hosted many Belgian rounds of the Formula One World Championship during the 70s and 80s and will always be remembered as the circuit where Gilles Villeneuve lost his life during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. Most recently Zolder provided the venue for prestigious events such as the 2007 Formula 3 Masters and a round of the Champ Car World Series.

Scuderia Ecosse is fielding an all-British driver line-up for the final round of the Championship. Darren Turner and Tim Mullen will again share the no.62 Ferrari and Tim Sugden has joined the team again to partner Andrew Kirkaldy in no.63.

Darren Turner:
“As well as being the last FIA GT race of the year it is also my last race of the year so I’m hoping for a good one. It’s good that it’s at a circuit that is new to me as I get to learn a new track. Tim (Mullen) and I have had two fourth places so far so we’re going to see if we can claw our way onto the podium at Zolder!”

Tim Mullen:
“I’ve not been to Zolder before so it’s nice to go somewhere new, although it’s not as glamorous as Dubai which was the last race of the 2006 season. The team’s best result so far this year has been third so we want to better that and finish the year on a high. That’s our target.”

Tim Sugden:
“I really can’t wait for the Zolder race and I’m looking forward to driving with Andrew again. The car seems to be going really well at the moment and I’m just back from winning my last two races in China so I’m feeling confident that we can get a good result.”

Andrew Kirkaldy:
“I raced at Zolder back in 1998 in a Formula Opel but I think the circuit has changed a bit since then. Apart from the Spa 24 Hours this year I haven’t raced with Tim (Sugden) since we did two FIA GT races together back in 2002. There’s every reason to expect a good result from the two of us at Zolder and I’m looking forward to getting out there and rounding off the season.”

Stewart Roden, Team Principal:
“It’s been a tough season for us, but I think we can end the season on a high note. All four drivers are upbeat about the forthcoming weekend at Zolder and I am hoping to see all four of them up on the podium!”

The action starts on Saturday with the first free practice session at 0905hrs. Qualifying is on Saturday afternoon at 1715hrs and the final race of the 2007 season gets underway at the usual time of 1315hrs on Sunday.
