Spinal Injuries volunteer worker Keira Proctor has been named as Spinal Injuries Scotland Volunteer of the Year. In addition to winning this prestigious award which she will receive at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews on the 15th May, Keira also won a trip to Silverstone, a prize donated by the Scuderia Ecosse Race Team, at a recent Spinal Injuries Scotland fund-raising event.

Car-fanatic Keira and her partner Paddy Bowie saw all the action of the opening round of the FIA 2009 GT Championship last weekend from the Gigawave/Nismo pit garage and felt the pre-race tension during a trip to the grid as the cars lined up for the first race of the 2009 season.

Wheelchair-bound Keira said, ”It was a fantastic weekend and to see the cars up close was just great. The level of preparation and work that goes into these race cars is amazing and to be able to get on to the grid was a brilliant experience. I love cars, and am keen to support Scottish motorsport by attending as many events as I can fit in! Life has not stopped for me, and after an exciting weekend at Silverstone, to be recognised for my Spinal Injuries work was a perfect ending to the week”.
